Food Photography

Stonegate Pub Company, a leading hospitality and pub group with over 620 pubs and bars across the UK in a variety of formats, tasked Severn with meeting a defined photographic brief (simple enough until you factor in the unforseeables!)Planning. Experience. Understanding what can go wrong. Thinking on your feet… making food look mouth-watering can be no small feat. Meeting a photographic brief means considering shot accessories, set furniture, props, how to create a festive pub backdrop for instance, when you’re shooting in May. Then there’s scheduling the day to allow home economists to prepare each dish, engaging and directing photographers, ensuring enough shots are taken – different angles and formats – for integrated marketing activity… and so the list goes on. Practical ingenuity comes into play when there’s a traffic lock-down in central London during the Olympic games and you’re shooting one mile away… and when red lip gloss has to stand in for strawberry coulis as the dessert of the day melts under lighting!
